Sugar Rush: Apple Buckwheat Cake at Abraço

Plenty of apples keep this slice ($3.50) extra moist, and buckwheat gives it this homey, nutty essence that I can never get enough of. It's dense and hearty, with an earthy sweetness from homey fruit. Apples are occasionally replaced with seasonal fruits, like blueberries during the summer, or paired with wonders like pistachio cream. You'll also find it plain every now and then—and a plain buckwheat cake is something you should never pass up. Just don't forget a cortado on the side.
