The brownie base of this sundae is more truffle than bar cookie, so moist and dark and rich it falls apart at a spoon's slightest provocation. You can get it with any flavor of ice cream, but we recommend sweet and spicy cinnamon. The homemade hot fudge sauce has the telling stiffening-on-impact texture of the very best. Thick, barely sweet whipped cream and homemade sprinkles are the crown on this king of sundae land.
Eddie's Sweet Shop
Forest Hills favorite Eddie's knows how to do a sundae right. Three enormous scoops of homemade ice cream (a little on the mild side, but exceptionally creamy with a bit of chew) come drenched in some of the finest, thickest hot fudge sauce this city has to offer, along with towers of proud whipped cream. The best part is spooning some up excess sauce and melted ice cream from the saucer below, and catching a banana slice on the way up. Eddie's also looks like it hasn't changed since the '20s; it's basically the perfect place to get a sundae.

The traditional sundae with some bright new ideas. A pyramid-shaped pile of vanilla ice cream comes topped with crushed pralines, a silky flow of hot fudge, and a splash of whiskey (!!) poured table-side. The DIY toppings include toasted pistachios, clouds of whipped cream, and a dish of caramelized white chocolate sauce. Don't disregard the curious rounds of coconut and caramel truffles or housemade marshmallow squares.
As classic a sundae as it gets, with whipped cream so thick it's almost butter. The ever-reliable vanilla Häagen-Dazs holds up well to a hot fudge sauce almost as thick as the whipped cream. Crushed walnuts, a candy-red cherry, and an adorable milk chocolate cow complete the nostalgia trip.
Pearl Oyster Bar
This is a clean, pure ice cream sundae with only vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and a simple topping of whipped cream. The fudge remains soft and flowing—it doesn't harden— and it is thoughtfully distributed throughout the tall sundae glass for even bites all the way down to the bottom
Lula's Sweet Apothecary
Lula's is a vegan ice cream shop, but you don't have to be vegan to get a craving for their nut-based ice creams that really could pass for dairy. This sundae features strawberry, banana walnut-chocolate chunk, and peanut butter ice cream with brownies on the bottom, and whipped (coconut) cream, chocolate sprinkles, and a cherry on top. It comes with two scoops, but ambitious bellies can easily throw on a third.
Dessert Club ChikaLicious
Dessert Club ChikaLicious' signature vanilla bean soft-serve is layered with whipped cream cheese frosting and chunks of red velvet cake in the Red Velvet Sundae. It's like they chopped up a red velvet cupcake (or two) and folded it into the soft-serve. Salted, toasted pistachios round everything out; a spoon and healthy appetite is all you need.
Long Island Honorable Mention: Timmy O's Frozen Custard
The hot fudge sundae here is made with three scoops of custard, topped with fudge sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles, and cherries. The homemade custard is some of the smoothest, creamiest, and richest around, good enough to overlook the canned whipped cream and storebought hot fudge.
Note: Timmy's has relocated from Corona to New Hyde Park, but we still wanted to give this sundae some love.
