Frank Prisinzano, the owner of Frank, Supper, Lil' Frankie's, and most recently Sauced, is a staple of the East Village Italian scene. Our good friend (and former Serious Eats intern!) Katie Quinn from NBC's Today Show wrote a charming profile and three-part video series on Prisinzano, in which he talks about the importance of his grandmother's cooking, his restaurants (new and old), and his radio station East Village Radio.
Prisinzano gives a lot of credit to his grandmother, Carmella Panella, who inspired him to open his first restaurant. His rigatoni ragu recipe comes from her, as does some of the furniture, dishes, and silverware in his restaurant.
The story makes it clear that Prisinzano doesn't just see himself as a restaurant owner. He aimed for his first restaurant to be a place where gusts wouldn't just eat great food, but also sit, socialize with each other, and interact with the staff.
