They say tapas make the world go round. Ok, they don't really say that, but they would if more tapas menus included fried olives ($7) like Olea's Tavernera in Fort Greene. These green olives are breaded, fried to a greasy sheen and served on a tangy bed of chilled tzatziki. Sure, olives are briny, chewy bites of perfection on their own, but when prepared like this, their salty meat and juices mingle with the crisp fried exterior and yogurt base for zesty flavor and texture contrasts. Our only quip is that the breaded crust could have been thicker: some olives easily freed themselves from their thin fried shell. A more substantial coating would help, and would also work towards sopping up more olive juice and tzatziki dip.
During the week, locals flock to this taverna for tapas and inspired Mediterranean breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings. But good luck getting a table here for Saturday brunch: the happening nearby Brooklyn Flea means this place becomes packed with bargain hunters eager to score a table and some solid brunch grub.
