A Sandwich a Day: Avocado Sandwich at Iris Take Away
In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

It's almost impossible to resist an avocado-based sandwich. The fruit is buttery and rich, but it's also plenty refreshing. The Avocado Sandwich ($8.50) at Iris does not disappoint. Dijon mayo provides a little extra creaminess, while a quick pickle gives a crunch that's not too vinegary. Sharp cheddar cheese makes for a heartier bite, but the real star here (besides the ripe avocado) is the nutty 7-grain bread: a little sour, and chewy in a very satisfying way.
