On the eve of the tenth annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party, only the greatest weekend of the year for barbecue lovers in NYC, the Southern Foodways Alliance will be throwing the Potlikker Film Fest—a one-night dinner and screening event on Friday, June 8, bringing together Southern food, bourbon, and short films.

On the menu? Potlikker (naturally), deviled eggs, duck and sausage gumbo, cold-fried (and sorghum-sauced) chicken, Memphis-style baby back ribs, Texas-style salt and pepper ribs, and more prepared by Kenny Callaghan of Blue Smoke, Robert Newton of Seersucker in Brooklyn, and Ryan Prewitt of Herbsaint in New Orleans. Special guest Julian Van Winkle, the grandson of "Pappy" himself, will be pouring from his family's stash of brown whiskey and filmmaker Joe York will be screening three of his new documentaries, including one about the Van Winkle whiskey story, Asleep in the Wood.

The event will take place at Blue Smoke; tickets are $75 each (available here) but we're giving away a pair right here!

To enter, compose a barbecue-themed haiku—that would be a total of 17 syllables in three phrases of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively. The best one, as determined by the Serious Eats staff, will win.

Contest will end and comments will close at noon ET, Monday, June 4, 2012. One entry per community member. The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply.
