Discover Brooklyn's Hidden Edible Plants on a Foraging Journey

Ethnobotanist, food writer, and locavore Leda Meredith will show participants how to identify and prepare wild edibles including mushrooms, mulberries, sassafras, and a variety of weeds. The tour takes place in Prospect Park. $20. Location will be disclosed with R.S.V.P.; event website

The start of Governor Island's food-and-drink bonanza this summer is marked by this two-day picnic. More than 20 vendors will be attending the event, including Jimmy's No. 43 and East Village Meat Market. In addition to food vendors, there will be cook-offs and live music. $25 gets you onto the island with a free beer. Governors Island; event website

Pie Making at Brooklyn Kitchen

With summer fast approaching, fresh fruit is going to be plentiful. Learn how to manipulate those ingredients into a delicious pie at this pie making class. Homemade Pizza Making Class
Sunday, May 27, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Small Batch Brewery Tours
Monday, May 28, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Throughout a guided 45-minute tour, participants will taste four beers, one seasonal and a rare Brewmaster's Reserve. A behind the scenes tour of the brewery will take place after the tasting. $8 but reservations are required. Mystery Basket: Test Your Skills

Ever wondered how you would fair on Food Network's Chopped? This class pits teams against a basket filled with mystery ingredients. You have one hour to make a dish and you will be judged (although no eliminations here!) $75. 100 Frost Street, Brooklyn, NY; event website

Hester Nights
