Marc Forgione is the real deal. He's got the pedigree: he started working in professional kitchens alongside his father, esteemed chef Larry Forgione, at age 16. He's got the praise: at 29, his TriBeCa restaurant Marc Forgione was awarded two stars by The New York Times, and he's the youngest American-born chef and owner to receive a Michelin star in two consecutive years. Marc also knows his neighborhood—he doesn't discriminate between the old-line TriBeCa watering holes and the hottest new restaurants, as long as they're good. And he gives back to the area where he works by participating in the Taste of TriBeCa, a culinary festival whose proceeds go to arts and enrichment programs at local public schools PS 150 and PS 234.
Marc was kind enough to take some time out of his jam-packed schedule (he's got his hands full opening a gigantic new oceanfront steakhouse, American Cut, in Atlantic City's Revel Casino) to share his own TriBeCa tastes with us.
Walker's has the best burger in TriBeCa hands down (after ours, of course). It's a good deal at $10.
I love going over to Marco Canora's Terroir after work for a glass of wine and great Italian small plates.
I love Ward 3, where Abdul, Michael and Kenny are as good as you will find behind the bar. Try one of their classic cocktails or have them create something specifically for you.
When we want to go out after service, the staff at the restaurant usually heads over to Raccoon Lodge. They have everything you could want in a dive bar: cheap drinks, a pool table, and a punching machine. My drink order is a Miller High Life.
Cosmopolitan Cafe is one of the best spots in all of NYC. I like to order the Banana Nutella Crepe and an espresso. Ask for Craig, tell him you know us and ask him to see the back room. It is a must-see gem!
Marc Murphy's Landmarc is open until 2am and it's where we like to head for good, late night food after service. Boudin Noir or Chicken Liver are my favorites.
I always enjoy chef Paul Liebrandt's food and Corton is the perfect date-night restaurant for a special occasion. Order the seasonal tasting menu.
Can't-miss neighborhood spot
Locanda Verde for their Eggplant Parmigiano Hero with egg. Also, I had the pleasure of going to Atera early and thought chef Matthew Lightner's food was really innovative.
