I'm a huge cinnamon bun fan, but I must admit I'm disappointed by them more often than not. That's because there are so many ways for a cinnamon bun to go wrong: dry dough, too much icing, unnecessary heaviness, bloated size, or wrong amounts of cinnamon. But in the last few weeks I have found my go-to cinnamon bun in New York, the 'wichcraft brioche cinnamon bun.

What makes it so insanely, seriously delicious, and downright perfect in my estimation? It's light, moist, tender, just eggy enough, downright delicate (whoever heard of a cinnamon bun being delicate?), and flavorful through and through, from its lightly glazed exterior to its tender, lovely center.

It's also the right size, 3 1/8 inches long by 2 7/8 inches high (truth be told it's actually bizarrely, irregularly shaped, but that's part of its charm), plenty substantial without being overwhelming. And here's the best thing: one of these lovely buns has less than 300 calories. It's a calorically affordable weekly indulgence, particularly if you have one for breakfast with either a diet Coke or a cup of coffee.
