Known mainly for their classic subs, Park Slope's Zito's Sandwich Shoppe also fries up some mighty tasty arancini ($5). The Sicilian rice balls are listed as a side dish, but these huge versions pack a carb-loaded punch. The menu offers a veggie arancini, but we sampled the meat variation: a lightly breaded fried ball of arborio rice stuffed with Ottamanelli Bros. chopped meat, peas, saffron, and homemade mozzarella, smothered with local aiello ricotta and marinara sauce. Need something less filing? Zito's mini arancini (meat or veggie; five for $6) seem perfect for snacking—and sharing.
