There are so many good things going on with this muffin ($3.50) from Birdbath Bakery, I'm not even sure where to begin. Perhaps with the fresh pears, diced into large chunks and caramelized until golden. Or with the crystallized ginger, simultaneously spicy and sweet, each piece dipped in a thin shell of sugar. Both those elements are folded into the bakery's signature corn muffin batter, the slightly nutty aspects elevated with the unexpected inclusion of oat flour. Baked low and wide with maximum surface area for the crunchy tops and well-browned sides, there's not a bad bite to be had.
