Best Old-School Food Truck

Falafel rockstar, Vendy Award 2010 winner, and Astoria homeboy Fares "Freddy" Zeideia has been talking for a while about opening a cart in Manhattan. Starting today, you can get your fix at King of Falafel and Shawarma Express on 53rd Street and Park Avenue. The menu is a limited selection, offering the signature oblong falafel as well as two shawarmas: chicken and a beef-lamb mix. Sandwiches come in the form of stuffed pitas, not the wraps at the Astoria location, and platters will come over salad with pita on the side (no rice). Check out the full menu, which includes all the King's homemade sauces and pickles, here.

The cart will be open for lunch, Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 3 PM. The King himself will be manning the helm, passing out free samples of falafel with glee as the line grows.
