This Apple Pie ($5) isn't available at Peels every day. You just have to get lucky, step up to the bakery counter, and cross your fingers. And when it's there, you must get a slice. Or two. The filling, hearty and tender apple slices are excellent, the flavor intensity further amplified with an apple cider reduction. But it's the double crust that makes this extra memorable. Flaky is the key word for this deep dish number, salted just so and with plenty of butter. It's baked a deep brown, a few minutes past golden. First a slight, buttery crunch, and then you sink in though multiple layers of a ridiculously good crust that's as decadent as it is comforting. Shards fly and you'll make a mess. But I dare you, eat this with two hands and no forks. Doesn't get much more satisfying than that.
