Sugar Rush: Root Beer Cake at tbsp

At tbsp on 20th Street, a slice of Root Beer Cake ($3) might be more intense than you'd expect. The root beer element comes infused into the whipped, smooth cream cheese frosting as well as in the cake itself, a moist, even-crumbed specimen. It's soft and sweet, and those haunting sassafras notes trickle in the beginning and stay until the end. It's not for everyone, but for those looking for something a touch different, it'll be appreciated. Also keep an eye out for tbsp's Caramel Pecan Bar ($3)—it sits atop a graham cracker crumb crust, and the toasty pecans are deliciously addictive.
