Sugar Rush: Banana Stracciatella Gelato from Eataly

Texturally, the gelato ($3.90) offered at Gelateria inside Eataly is nowhere close to being one of the best in the city. It is often icy and slick when it should be creamy smooth. But they do win bonus points for having one particular flavor in stock at (nearly) all times. It's the Banana Stracciatella gelato, one of my favorite gelato flavors and best executed by L'arte del Gelato. Unfortunately L'arte only offers it a few times a year without notice or schedule; you just have to get lucky. So for all other times I turn to Eataly, where the intensely ripe banana gelato comes streaked with dark chocolate shards. The broken chocolate bits melt first, chased by the cool of banana. Best in a waffle cone.
