First Look: Blue Smoke Battery Park City
Danny Meyer isn't wasting any time in his takeover of Battery Park City. This week and last have brought two high-profile openings in the environs of North End Avenue—North End Grill of chef Floyd Cardoz, formerly of Tabla, and the second location of Flatiron barbecue spot Blue Smoke.
Blue Smoke opened last Monday for dinner and begins lunch service this week; considering the number of office-clad hopefuls trying the door during lunch hour, the neighborhood is more than ready for daytime barbecue opportunities.
The new location boasts a larger bar space and private dining room, but foes bear some resemblance to the 27th Street location. Dark woods and a spacious back bar make it a nice fit for the power broker atmosphere of downtown, but holds on to the down-home in a New York state of mind vibe of the original.
But this is not a straight-up Blue Smoke transplant. The Battery Park City location features a completely new bar menu, different appetizers and main dishes courtesy of Chef de Cuisine Jeffrey Held, and a number of brand new cocktails from beverage director Tinika Green.
Other things to look out for? Another outpost of the Blue Smoke Bakeshop, with pies, cupcakes, and more sweet treats to go. Not to mention the Brooklyn Brewery Blue Smoke Orignal Ale, a signature brew crafted to pair well with the restaurant's heavy, hearty fare. "We want people to be able to drink three of them," said general manager Mark Maynard-Parisi. (It's good to see that the Blue Smoke crew has the best interests of the denizens of Battery Park City in mind.)
We sampled a number of Blue Smoke's new offerings along with some old favorites. Check them out in the slideshow above!
