Bacon in desserts isn't a surprise anymore. But when done right with no gimmick, we still love it. Case in point: a hearty scoop of Miss Piggy À La Mode from Ample Hills Creamery. It starts with a sweet cream ice cream base, full-bodied and practically buttery in texture. That alone would make a sufficient dessert, but then they swirl in folds of strawberry preserves and crisp curls of bacon. The best part is that the bacon doesn't come in tiny bits, but fairly large, meaty pieces with a lingering smokiness. Strawberry complements the savory, all set against a luxuriously buttery background. Friday afternoon snack, anyone?
