In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.
Holiday season is about to come to a head. And then... back to workday life? That strikes me as an unnecessary shock to the system. Thankfully, City 75 is here to keep the holiday spirit going. From the outside, City 75 looks like one of those buffet/sandwich counter/pizza by the slice places on every block in Midtown. Their distinguishing feature? They roast a whole turkey every day for lunch service.
You can order the roast turkey to your liking, but I tried the Touchdown ($6.95), City 75's combination of sliced white meat and cranberry sauce on toasted seven-grain bread (the menu promised basil, but there was none on my sandwich). The bread stood up well to the ample serving of juicy, nicely salted turkey, and the cranberry sauce added a nice sweetness without being cloying. A good, basic sandwich—though next time I might add some cheese, and definitely some spicy mustard.
