A Sandwich A Day: Fried Egg Sandwich at Elsewhere
In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

Of all the restaurants we've reviewed this year, Elsewhere may not be the best, but it certainly answered the biggest question: "Where do I get brunch/pre-matinee lunch/pre-theater dinner/drinks near Times Square?" It's great to have a pleasant, reliable restaurant in that neck of the woods. I recently stopped by for the fried egg sandwich ($9) on the brunch menu*.
Okay, it looks a bit haphazard on the plate. And it's hard to eat with two hands as a sandwich. So think of it as an excellent whole-grain loaf split and topped with two fried eggs, whose yolks are perfectly portioned to soak into every crumb. Rosy tomato slices and pickles round it out, and a lightly dressed salad comes alongside. Simple, but done well, every element well-seasoned and well-prepared. Nothing you've never eaten before, but how great is it to spend less than $10 for a pleasant brunch near Times Square?
*Don't judge by the photo. A girl doesn't always have her fancy food-writer camera.
