Sugar Rush: Tea Cookies at DavidsTea
At the recently opened DavidsTea on Bleecker Street, there are a few things to note. First, this is one of the few loose leaf tea shops in the city where you can walk in and buy a cup of tea to-go, brewed to order. It's $2.50 a cup regardless of which tea you pick (so if you choose the Milk Oolong which usually sells for $20.50/two ounces of tea leaves, this is an amazing deal!).
And second, look out for these tea cookies which they store in glass cases near the register. Two types, both baked by Las Delicias exclusively for DavidsTea. They ground up the tea leaves and blend them straight into the dough, making for a fairly powerfully flavored cookie. They're $1.95 per pack, each with four thin, crisp cookies rimmed in a dusting of sugar. I prefer Matcha-Pine Nut in the afternoon and the Breakfast Tea cookie in the mornings. Pair with the matching tea to drink and that is a complete meal indeed.
