Sugar Rush: Brunch Dessert Bar at Benoit
Benoit launched a new Brunch Dessert Bar this past Sunday and it's an incredible sight for the sweet tooth. Paris Brest! Tarte Tatin! Pear Charlotte! The list goes on. It spans both French classics and seasonal sweets like Pumpkin Tarts and Fig Clafoutis. For $16 you can have your pick of any (or all) the desserts. They give you a little menu and pen at the table and you just check off which desserts you desire.
It may not surprise you that I suggest checking them all off. The sweets are cut into manageably sized tasting portions and delivered to your table. Favorites include Tarte Tropezienne, a billowy round of fresh brioche halved and filled with a cool vanilla bean cream. The Chocolate Mousse is impressively light but even lighter is Ile Flottante (otherwise known as the "floating island") featuring airy meringue orbs in a pool of crème anglaise. And make sure you get a wedge of both the traditional Tarte Tatin and the lush Pear Tart. This one comes nestled in a frangipane shell lined with slivered almonds; it's good enough that you might even have to ask for seconds.
