A Sandwich a Day: Lengua Cemita from El Tenampa

I first tried El Tenampa for their tacos, but my favorite thing to get there is their lengua (tongue) cemita ($7.50). This hefty sandwich is packed with chunks of tongue—meltingly tender with crispy bits around the edges—layered with ripe avocado slices, crema, crisp red onion, chopped iceberg lettuce, black bean mash, and white cheese. (By default it also comes with hot chile sauce, but after trying that version, I always order it non-spicy. There's also a condiment bar if you want to add salsa to your liking.) While it can get messy, the fluffy, well toasted cemita roll from Las Conchitas Bakery holds up well to the fillings.
