At Otto there's always one dessert on the menu that isn't primarily gelato-based (though there will always be a gelato or sorbet component!). I dropped in over the weekend and was delighted to find Spiced Caramel Panna Cotta ($8) as one of the current fall offerings.
Meredith Kurtzman's panna cotta shares a great deal with her gelato—intense, true to flavor, and silky smooth. The panna cotta clings to the spoon but gives easily with the nudge of the tongue. The spice is light with a touch of cinnamon, though the caramel element is heady and deep, paired with a crème fraîche gelato that's creamy with a slight tang in the finish. Alternate spoonfuls with sweet diced pears tucked in a brown butter crumble.
