Sugar Rush: Mini-Mini Doughnuts at BabyCakes

Babycakes won our vote for the best baked doughnut in NYC earlier this year. They were tiny and picture-perfect, packed into a pink box. Oily in all the right ways, you could easily mistake them for a fried version. There was only one problem. At a pricey $3.50 a doughnut, it limited how many I'd buy in a visit. The small size meant that I could eat two or three in a sitting. But to spend almost $10 on a doughnut snack? Ouch. In comes a newer creation, the mini mini doughnuts, a $1.90 a piece. They're about 2/3 the size of the original doughnuts, and if possible, even cuter. Classic flavors are the ones I eat most frequently, doughnuts dusted in powdered sugar or cinnamon-sugar, another simply dipped in dark chocolate. But for more creative flavors, look for strawberry shortcake topped with nutty cake crumbles, and a cookie crunch teasing of both chocolate and coffee.
