It should be no surprise that when La Maison du Chocolat creates a Chocolate Mousse ($7), it's an excellent chocolate mousse. The deep cup is sealed with a thin dark chocolate shell. I like to crack the shell like I would a crème brûlée and sink my spoon all the way though. Unlike the hot chocolate here, the mousse is indulgent but not excessively rich. It's voluptuous but not too rich, whipped lightly and creamy from egg yolks, butter, and heavy cream. The chocolate is a semi-sweet number, appeasing both serious chocolate aficionados and those who just want a great dessert. Closed with a simple lid to match, it's a mousse to take on the go, an enviable afternoon snack in the office.
