Pepe Rosso To-Go on Sullivan Street is a tiny place, so tiny that they post (friendly, cheeky) signs suggesting you eat fast and make room for the next guest. Which is why this restaurant is one of my favorite takeout and delivery spots in the area. The prices are quite gentle, for the Soho and the South Village area. The food is consistently fresh and people here are nice as can be.
Pastas and daily specials are my go-to orders, in particular the housemade Pappardelle ($10.95), supple wide noodles cooked al dente, laced in a meaty, spicy tomato sauce and crumbled sausage. Coupled with parmesan, extra chili pepper flakes, and warm slices of olive oil-brushed Italian bread, it makes for the ultimate comfort food lunch on a rainy day. If you're in a meaty mood, keep in mind that they do a dependable, rather homey version of Spaghetti Bolognese as well as a Lasagna—a large serving, light on the cheese, but finished with a generous ladle of the aforementioned Bolognese sauce right over the top. Make sure you save that bread to soak it all up!
