At Cha-An, the Earl Grey Flan ($7.50) occasionally appears on the specials menu—but even if you don't see it there, ask the waitress and she just might have a few extra hiding in the kitchen. It's heavenly, the silky combination of cool, egg-rich flan and the intensity of earl grey tea, heavily infused into the cream base. A light caramel sauce, soft whipped cream, and crushed toffee bits round out this dessert. Certainly one you'll want to keep all for yourself. Do note, Cha An also offers a Sakura Flan ($7.50) on the regular menu—it's as light in flavor as the earl grey version is intense. Wobbly and more delicate in texture, the cherry blossom is subtle but ever-present and complemented with a spoonful of sweet azuki beans.
