Sugar Rush: Coconut Tapioca at Cocoron

At Cocoron on the Lower East Side, finish an excellent meal with the housemade Matcha Affogato with azuki beans and soft mochi, the silky Annin Tofu—or even better on a warm evening, Coconut Tapioca ($5.80). Served cold, the tapioca sets itself apart from the usual combination of creamy coconut milk and tiny tapioca bubbles with the addition of mint—a finely chopped flurry mixed into the bowl. Dig in and find a colorful pool of fresh fruits, diced and frozen: chunks of bananas, whole blue- and blackberries, and quartered strawberries. The dessert features more fruit than tapioca, making it less of a pudding with fruit than the other way around. Dessert portions are small at Cocoron, so if you're planning to share, order two!
