Sugar Rush: Black Hound's Mini Blueberry Pies

We brought you the cheerful lattice top blueberry pies from Trois Pommes last week, and this week we're back with another, from the beloved Black Hound bakery in the East Village. Equally tiny, perfect for two to share, but completely different in flavor and presentation. This one ($6.50) is a double-crust number, rising high with the pie's height exceeding its width, three sharp slits revealing a true bounty of blueberries. The crust is non-traditional, crisp and more like a thinly rolled, crumbly sugar cookie dough than a normal flaky, butter-rich crust. A decidedly fine break from the ordinary!
