Lunch Today: Fried Chicken from Shing's Food Shop

Fried chicken for lunch? Don't mind if we do. We noticed this street cart on a walk near the east end of Chinatown, and as we stopped to take a look, we were told by the owner that he's been selling food here for over five years. Their menu is pretty simple—fried chicken, chow mein, egg rolls, and fried rice. Packed in a lunch bag, the fried chicken ($4.00) comes in a large portion that is more than enough for two people. Each piece, bone-in of course, is floured and then thrown into a large, black wok to fry. We enjoyed the flavorful meat, steaming hot; coming straight out of the frying wok, the outer layer of each piece is quite crispy, too. The meat inside is a bit overcooked, but that's our only complaint. Fried chicken from a cart is a great thing.
