When we were thinking about bánh mì sandwiches for the festival line-up, one immediately came to mind: the winner of our best bánh mì in Manhattan.

Bánh Mì Zòn's classic bánh mì is about as good as they get. The baguette is fresh with a light, tender crumb and a well-blistered surface that maximizes crackliness. Their pâté is the star of the stuffing—it's luxuriously rich and smooth with none of that gray oxidized look that plagues so many others. The pickled carrots and daikon radish are slightly sweet and sweet with a fresh snap, and the cilantro is bright green.

How's that for a bánh mì? A crunchy, tangy, meaty, baguette-y bite between nibbles of meatball parms and turkey heroes.

20110622-roadfood-sandwiches.jpgToday's giveaway! Anyone who has purchased a ticket before 6 p.m. EST today will be entered into a drawing for a copy of Jane and Michael Stern's Roadfood Sandwiches. This coast-to-coast guide is a veritable bible for road-tripping sandwich lovers. The Sterns have driven the back roads, chatted up locals, and sought out po' boys, hot browns, and fried bologna finds for years. Roadfood Sandwiches is an atlas of regional sandwiches with a big slice of American history. And if you bring your winning copy to the festival, we'll all sign it!
