A Sandwich a Day: Mortadella Panini at Bottega Falai

Posted by Ed Levine, June 14, 2011

In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

The Mortadella Panino ($10) at at Bottega Falai is a really good sandwich, and a pretty hefty one, too. It'd be just about perfect were the tomatoes not totally flavorless (though it's not really their fault that it's June in New York). Their foccacia is great, oily but crisp and tender on the inside, and I love the fontina-mortadella combination. You'd think the fontina would fight the mortadella, but it doesn't.
