In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.
I love the salty chewiness of grilled halumi cheese, but sometimes find it hard to make my way through a whole sandwich's worth. That's why I appreciated the halumi sandwich ($5.90) from Israeli chain Aroma Espresso Bar, with three locations in New York; it pairs halumi with soft, mild cream cheese that balances the salt level out. While I like the puffy, crusty white bread, I find myself tempted to smash the whole thing down so it's about half as tall. Still, it's a tasty combination of ingredients. I'd rather pay $6 for a big half-sandwich than $9 for a whole, but if you're of a larger appetite, that full-sized sandwich is an option, too.
