Sugar Rush: Xocolatti at The Chocolate Library

I was first introduced to Xocolatti at a friend's dinner party, where glasses of champagne were accompanied by truffles. The one on my plate was a pistachio—a blend of chocolate ganache and pistachio paste, all rolled in crushed pistachios. I befriended the woman next to me and took a bite of hers, a silky caramel number with sprinkles of fleur de sel. A few weeks later, after much hunting around town, I found Xocolatti at The Chocolate Library, truffles sold by the box of four.

The favorite of the bunch? A sake truffle (pictured above), made by infusing Awarmori sake into dark chocolate ganache. The sake effect is subtle but clear; you can't mistake it for anything else. Enrobed in a thin chocolate shell and finished with a shimmer of deep of blue, this truffle is just as much for the eyes as it is the tastebuds.

Purchase Xocolatti online or at The Chocolate Library in the East Village.
