A Sandwich A Day: The Cold Cut Bánh Mì at An Nhau
In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

I'm a bánh mì fiend, and of all the myriad stuffings you can get in the classic crunchy-salty-spicy-sweet-and-fresh Vietnamese-style baguette sandwich, my favorite is đặc biệt—a mixture of cold cuts typically containing paté, Vietnamese pork roll, ham, and headcheese, all sliced super-thin. The bánh mì at An Nhau may not be the greatest in the world (its major failing is that it comes with a sriracha-like hot sauce when you order it spicy instead of fresh chilis), but its cold cuts are pretty awesome. Bright pink, fresh, and flavorful. Their headcheese in particular is nice, riddled with spicy whole peppercorns, crisp bits of pig ear, and fatty cheek meat.

It comes, of course, in a toasted rice flour baguette with fresh cucumber, pickled daikon and radish, cilantro, and sweet Vietnamese mayo. The sandwiches come in ten varieties starting at $6, which is pricey for a bánh mì, but unfortunately seems to be the going rate these days.
