The Meadow, a Portland transplant, may be a known as a salt shop, but don't forget that nearly half the space inside their Hudson Street shop is devoted to chocolate and cocktail bitters. Towards the back of the store, next to all the accessories, you'll find a box of Chocolate Twigs ($8) by Mademoiselle de Margaux. Made in Margaux, France, these twigs are perfect to accompany an afternoon cup of espresso or tea, a subtle sweet bite that won't weigh you down. The natural orange flavor is light—you taste chocolate first and primarily, a whisper of orange chasing in behind. The twigs come in plain dark chocolate and five flavors including mint, raspberry, cappuccino, and toffee, but I'm still partial to the classic orange.
