If you can't score a seat at the James Beard House, here's your chance. Sorta. The Beard foundation just launched a pop-up restaurant/lounge deal yesterday in Chelsea Market at the Ninth Avenue entrance (in the old 202 space between 15th and 16th Streets). Until May 14, you can book reservations for special dinners with visiting chefs like Laurent Gras and the dudes from Animal in Los Angeles, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo.
Tickets to the prix-fixe dinners are available through Gilt City or popup.jamesbeard.org, and are scheduled for a few seating times, Tuesday through Saturday: 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. They'll go up each week on Wednesdays, and apparently some of them are selling out fast. Next week's Seder with Mile End's Aaron Israel already went online and, poof, sold out in 11 minutes.
The pop-up will also be open between to the public between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for demos, the mini book shop (a table of JBF Award-winning cookbooks), giveaways for Wusthof knives and Angus beef, or you can just use the tables to eat your lunch.
