A Sandwich a Day: Steak Sandwich at Mooncake Foods

In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

At Mooncake Foods, the Steak & Roasted Peppers Hero ($8) is an undeniably meaty and satisfying creation. It's the sort of hero you want to get delivered on a rainy or cold day. It also serves as an excellent hangover remedy. It's stuffed, no, overflowing really, with a tangle of sauteed onions and well-seasoned, if slightly tough, steak. Critical to the success of this hero are the sweet roasted red peppers and a heavy hand of garlic-dill mayo applied on the bottom half of the roll. Make sure to ask a side of the spicy green sauce (it's free, but they only give it upon request). I like to split open the hero and evenly distribute the cilantro-based sauce throughout. Bound to keep you full till dinner.
