Sugar Rush: Praline Cake at Black Hound
Black Hound's Praline Cake ($7.50) is more nut than cake, and a fine afternoon treat to split with a friend. Three thin, crumbly layers of a hazelnut cake alternate with creamy praline and chocolate buttercream, crushed pralines tucked in between each layer. Each bite is more crunchy than tender, with the toasted, crushed hazelnuts and pralines dominating, and the full, silky buttercream a smooth buffer. And how can you resist the pair of sugar ice skates? They also come topped in pair of red mittens, just for the winter.
