Sugar Rush: Loaf Cakes at Peels

I've been in a loaf cake mood for the past few weeks—those cozy, comforting, no fuss cakes seem appropriate for the cold weather. At Peels, a bounty of chocolate chips is folded into the batter of Shuna Fish Lydon's sweet Banana Bread ($2.75), with a tender, tiny crumb and crunchy browned tops. She also turns out a memorable Gingerbread of the extra-dark sort, supremely dense with a thin layer of icing. It's the type of slice that begs for a brief spell in the oven and spoonfuls of softly whipped cream.
