Some may deem olive oil cakes a fad, but I welcome each version with open arms. At Jeffrey's Grocery in the West Village, the sweet Olive Oil Bundt ($4) gets a citrus boost from fresh orange, and is texturally similar to the simultaneously dense and tender olive oil loaf sold at La Colombe. Abraco makes my favorite olive oil cake, but this one isn't bad at all.

However, the highlight of the pastry counter at Jeffrey's Grocery is the Chocolate Coffee Cake ($4). Slice it in half to reveal a shy chocolate smile cutting across the center of the cake. It's a streusel-free affair baked in a muffin tin, a buttery rich treat that could easily be mistaken for pound cake.
