At Serious Eats, we think nothing of hopping the subway (or a cab, or train, or airplane...) for good eats. Today you'll see a writeup from a spot far out into Brooklyn and Ed Levine's review from a strangely inaccessible corner of Manhattan. We regularly travel to Flushing in Queens for duck buns. We've taken day trips cross time zones for sandwiches, and a trip to Colorado this past Friday entailed a 3-hour round-trip drive south of Denver for a single cheeseburger.
