Nicole Slaven's mostly-standing-room boîte leads the East Broadway coffee revolution in a neighborhood more than ready for a cup of competition. (Watch out for Cafe "we-said-we-would-stop-at-three" Grumpy's fourth location to open just up the block in the coming months.)
Dora NYC continues to serve Stumptown beans and offers a wide variety of retail treats (from "penny" candies to particularly esoteric Chemex carafes) along with espresso-based drinks and pourover drip coffee. With easy access to the F train, two bridges, Chinatown buses, and the Doughnut Plant, a stop here should be a no-brainer for anyone looking to drink a cup or replenish their homebrewing supplies.
Added bonus—Dora's sometime-barista/owner-boyfriend/Stumptown-roaster-in-residence Ed Kaufmann (previously seen at Cafe Grumpy, Kaffe 1668 and Cafe Pedlar) will be on hand Fridays to prepare some of the most stunning espressos, macchiatos, cappuccinos, and lattes in the city... at least if last week's delicious examples are anything to go by.
