Sugar Rush: Lemon Cake from La Maison du Chocolat

La Maison du Chocolat might be known for all things chocolate, but Lemon Cakes ($6) are worth forgoing the chocolate for. They're kept behind the glass cases towards the back of the shop, near neatly organized rows of softly hued macarons. The cake is a buttery, zesty creature with a sticky golden surface. Lemon juice and rind appear in the tender, even-crumbed cake. Classic and simple. Have it to stay in the cafe, or, better yet, take it home and warm up with a cup of tea and the entire cake for yourself.
