I'll never tired of the tiny cakes from Blackhound in the East Village, perfectly portioned for two. The Pear-Almond ($7.50) is classic, coupling a full-bodied Bavarian cream with fresh poached pears. The duo is tucked between layers of marzipan-rich almond cake. Crackles of crispy, thin pear slices top of the cake, crunch, crunch, alongside honey-laced almonds, toasted and pressed over the gloss of vanilla buttercream. Don't forget a glass of milk on the side!
