Sugar Rush: Gelato at Borne Confections

Those working in Midtown might consider an afternoon detour to Borne Confections on Park Avenue. The chocolates by Oriol Balague are expectedly pricey, as are boxed cookies and sweets. But no worries, that's not what you're here for. Look to your right, and into the gelato and sorbet case. Here a fairly sized scoop, leveled off, runs $5.95. There are fruity sorbets of Raspberry and Honeydew. And then there is gelato. Pistachio is intensely nutty, genuine in flavor, with not a hint of almond that some places blend into the base. But even better is the buttery smooth Zabaione gelato (pictured above), simple and pure, eggy with the barest hint of marsala. Take note, Borne Confections also offers fresh baked croissants (baked in-house, the dough is from a supplier in Philly) and coffee in the morning.
