When I'm asked for scoop shop recommendations in New York, I often find myself recommending frozen treats that aren't actually ice cream—the Shake Shack's frozen custard and L'Arte del Gelato's smooth, silken gelato at the top of my list. And in the heat we've been having out East, I find myself thinking about ice cream more and more.

So tell us, in the summer, what do you prefer: ice cream, gelato, or frozen custard?
