In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

Intrigued by any sandwich claiming to be "Mile High", we just had to try this hero from a local favorite, Manganaro's Hero Boy. At Manganaro's they have their bread baked for them every day, and hand-slice their meats to order. For this rather epic Mile High Special ($10.00), they pile on prosciutto, salami, mortadella, sopressata, provolone, roasted red peppers, tomato, lettuce, and "spices". All of this is served on a fluffy but rather bland hero roll, speckled with sesame seeds. The general consensus was that the sandwich was a little overcrowded, an affliction we first saw with The Bomb in Astoria—the surplus of meats meant that no one flavor was particularly identifiable. But hey, if what you're looking for is a huge amount of food for your buck, this is the sandwich joint for you. And the crispy potato chips that come in a small bag on the side are perfectly enjoyable.
