Can you feel it in the air? It's currently World Cocktail Week, and in New York City, that means only one thing—we're gearing up for the Manhattan Cocktail Classic. We were privy to a preview in the fall, but this is the real deal: starting on Friday night, it's five days of parties, seminars, dinners, exploration, and cocktails galore. Sadly, the opening Gala at the New York Public Library is sold out, but tickets are still available for plenty of not-to-be-missed events.
The Manhattan Cocktail Classic brings together historians, experts, and bartenders from around the world; you can soak in the wisdom of industry experts like cocktail historianDave Wondrich, "King Cocktail"Dale DeGroff, and Steve Olson, also known as "Wine Geek," all while soaking up cocktails.
If you're a locavore at heart, learn about the world of Micro Spirits at the Micro Spirits Odyssey. This mini-conference offers a series of seminars and tastings focused around small artisan distilleries, many of which are starting to use New York state farm ingredients to produce high-quality spirits. Your ticket to the Micro Spirits Odyssey entitles you to the four Micro Spirits seminars, a tasting room, and access to the official bar of the MCC all day on Sunday.
Do you like punch? How about art? What about both at the same time? The Dizzy Fizz Tastemaker's Punch brings together artists (including Jill DeGroff) and cocktailians galore (including LUPEC NYC's Lynnette Marrero and Dave Wondrich) at a swank penthouse gallery with terraces overlooking the Hudson.
Visit the Manhattan Cocktail Classic's website for a full listing of available events taking place from May 14 to May 18 at Astor Center and venues around the city, and join their Facebook page for last minute information and discounts. Cheers!
