Who doesn't love french fries? We've long been looking for New York's best, and decided that the city's fries deserved more than a post—they needed a column of their own. Here's TGI Fry-Day, your weekly dose of deliciousness. Got a nomination? Let us know. —The Mgmt.
While You're There...
In late April, I gave you the rundown on the amazing gyro sandwich at Astoria's BZ Grill for SENY's A Sandwich a Day feature. In the comments SE'r Allot said, "The Greek fries here are the most insanely delicious thing ever." Well, thank goodness for T.G.I. Fryday, because now I can give this mad plate of insane deliciousness its proper due. (And thank you, Allot, for the rec!)
I don't think I have to say much about these things. I mean, look at that stack, will you? BZ Grill tops a bed of thick, crisp-yet-tender french fries with a veritable goat's worth of salty, sharp feta cheese and a drizzle of olive before putting it all under the broiler for some added crispness.
The fries seem to be the type that uses a coating of potato starch for extra crispness — if you've had Burger King's fries, you know what I'm talking about.
The Greek fries are listed on the menu under "appetizers," but they're almost a meal in and of themselves. If you're ordering the impeccable and hearty gyro sandwich as your main (and you should), I advise you to bring a friend along; you're going to need help finishing this plate.
As of publication date, the price is an inexplicable $5.03. Why the extra 3¢? I don't know.
